The Pistol Round
The first round of each half is worth far more than one round. How to approach it and why it matters.
The pistol round is the first round of each half, when both teams start with only their default pistol and a small amount of money. It's worth far more than a single point, because winning it swings the economy of the next few rounds too.
Why It's So Important
Winning the pistol round usually means winning the two or three rounds after it, since the losing team can't afford full equipment while you can. That's often a 3-0 or 4-0 swing from a single round. Few rounds in the game carry that much weight.
The Default Pistols
- CTs start with the USP-S or P2000-accurate, low recoil, great for controlled taps.
- Ts start with the Glock-18-less punchy per shot, but a large magazine and a burst-fire mode up close.
Buying on the Pistol Round
You don't have much money, so spend it deliberately-as a team:
- Armor is often the highest-value buy; surviving one extra bullet wins duels.
- Some players add a stronger pistol like the P250 (good armor penetration) or save for utility.
- Coordinate: a team that all buys armor beats a team of mixed half-buys.
See Economy Management for how the rounds after connect.
How to Play It
- Stick together and trade-numbers matter even more with weak guns.
- Aim for the head; pistols reward single accurate shots over spraying.
- Use what little utility you buy to take space safely.
Takeaway
The pistol round decides the early economy of a half. Buy armor, play as a team, and aim for heads-winning it is worth several rounds, not one.
