Common Death Spots on Inferno (and How to Stop Dying There)
The spots where players die most on Inferno, from Banana to Apartments to Mid, why each is so punishing, and the habits that stop repeat deaths.
Inferno is a map of tight chokes and heavy utility, and that combination produces the same deaths over and over. Push a choke without utility and you get molotoved out or picked by a pre-aimed CT - it happens every round to players who have not fixed the pattern.
The fix is rarely better aim. It is better timing, better use of smokes and flashes, and knowing which spots demand respect. This guide covers the most common death spots on Inferno and how to stop dying in each.
For the strategy behind these fights, read the Inferno Guide, plus Inferno T-Side Fundamentals and Inferno CT-Side Fundamentals.
How to Use This Guide
Focus on one spot at a time. If you are not sure where you lose fights, review your deaths after a session and look for the callout that keeps repeating.
Nearly every fix here comes back to utility usage, crosshair placement, and deciding when to hold or peek rather than pushing on the enemy's terms.
1. Pushing Banana Without Utility
Banana is where more players die than anywhere else on Inferno. You move up toward Car or Sandbags and get molotoved, flashed, or picked by a CT holding from Logs or Sandbags.
Why you die here: Banana is a long, narrow choke that the CT side controls with a single molotov and one held angle. Walking up dry means you are on their timing, in their fire, with nowhere to hide.
The fix: Banana control needs smokes and flashes, not just first blood. Smoke off the CT angle or flash over Sandbags before you contest, and respect the molotov - do not let it push you into a peek you did not choose. If you have no utility, play for info with a jiggle peek instead of committing.
2. Peeking Out of Apartments to Balcony / Pit
On the A side, players die stepping out of Apps toward Balcony or dropping into Pit, caught by a CT holding Pit, Graveyard, or Short.
Why you die here: the exits from Apps are tight and predictable. A CT only has to hold one doorway, and pushing out dry hands them a clean shot on a known angle.
The fix: flash your own exit before you peek Balcony, and clear angles in order rather than swinging everything at once. Hit A with a teammate so any kill on you gets traded, and check the off-angles - Pit and the deep site corners catch lazy Apps peeks constantly.
3. Contesting Mid Into Short / Arch
Fighting for Mid gets players killed by CTs holding from Short, Arch, or the far side, especially when pushing without a smoke.
Why you die here: Mid on Inferno opens you to multiple angles the moment you step out. A CT holding Short sees you first, and their positioning means you are reacting instead of dictating.
The fix: use a smoke to cut the angle you are not contesting, and pre-aim the spot a CT is most likely to hold rather than scanning the whole area. Winning Mid is about controlling it with utility, not out-aiming a player who is already set.
4. First-Contact Peeks Into Site as a T
Executing onto A or B, the first player in often dies to a CT holding site close, caught before the team's utility has fully landed.
Why you die here: rushing in ahead of your smokes and flashes means the CT still has vision and you do not. You become the flash test for your team.
The fix: time your entry with the utility. Wait the extra half-second for the flash to pop, then enter on it. Trading kills is everything on Inferno - the entry player's job is to trade well, which only works if teammates are close enough to follow.
5. Holding Banana Too Far Forward as a CT
Defenders give up free rounds by peeking too aggressively down Banana, or re-peeking Car after a kill into a stacked push.
Why you die here: once the T side knows a CT is playing forward, they prep flashes and numbers for it. Re-peeking the same angle walks you straight into their setup.
The fix: take your early molotov and information peek, then fall back to a spot that holds Banana without over-committing. If you keep dying pushed up, you are overpeeking - hold the choke and make them fight through your utility.
6. Getting Caught on Retakes and Rotations
Retaking a site after the bomb is down, players die to post-plant off-angles and crossfires around Pit, Graveyard, or the B chokes.
Why you die here: the T side sets up on angles you have to walk into, and pushing a retake alone lets them pick you off one at a time.
The fix: retake together and trade, keep your crosshair at head height on each corner, and clear the common post-plant spots deliberately instead of running onto site hoping the angle is empty.
Turn Repeat Deaths Into Rating
Inferno rewards discipline more than raw aim. Every spot above is a utility or timing problem, and those are the most fixable kind - you do not need to be a better shot, just a smarter one.
After your next few games, check where your opening deaths came from. If Banana keeps showing up, that is your single highest-value thing to fix.
Pair this with the Inferno Guide and work on positioning fundamentals so you are picking your fights instead of walking into theirs.
